Multisensory prosumption: how cooking classes shape perceptions of destinations

Purpose This study aims to examine the multisensory experiences of participating in a cooking class and how they shape perceptions destinations pre-trip stage. Performance theory prosumption provide theoretical lens investigate influences destination sensescape. Design/methodology/approach used participatory action research consisting an immersive Tatarstan experience with supporting materials music videos, focus group discussions participant observations. Findings Cooking participants prosume local culture (re)construct by partaking classes through experience. The sensescape formation is dynamic, stimulating memorable. With active engagement co-creating process, such significantly strengthens reshapes destination. Practical implications can be leveraged marketing as tool enhance competitiveness tourism contribute accessible tourism, engaging visually impaired tourists’ other heightened senses design marketing. Originality/value revealed that participation involves active, embodied engagement, which acts vehicle perception change.
